Niggemeyer's move

Elite Series pro James Niggmeyer has left the Mercury camp to join Yamaha. He'll still run a Bass Cat (a Cougar FTD, again wrapped by Synergy Technologies), but his power unit will be a Yamaha 250 SHO.

Niggemeyer told BassFan that it wasn't a rush decision. Instead, it was several years in the making.

"It's been a long, slow process," he said. "I run with Takahiro (Omori) a lot, and he's just sung the praises of the SHO motors. And Yamaha's been a company I've admired from afar. I'm really not one to jump around, but I got to know the people at Yamaha, then got to know more about the product, then some things came together and worked out well."

He noted too that he wasn't cut from the Mercury staff and he's still with MotorGuide (like Mercury, a Brunswick company). The move was a choice.

"It's not like I'm running from something – it's that I'm running to something," he said. "I'm really pleased to be a part of Team Yamaha now. It's something that's real exciting for me."
