Horton's Fishing For Kids: help wanted

Tim Horton's Fishing For Kids event pairs anglers with special-needs kids for a day of fishing on Alabama's Lake Pickwick out of McFarland Park. The program began way back in 1997 and to this point has involved an estimated 1,500 special-needs children.

This year's Fishing For Kids event is slated for Saturday, Oct. 9 from 10:00 to 2:00. Volunteers and boat captains from all over Alabama and Tennessee come to help, but Horton's asking BassFans to enlist as well. Help is needed for the registration table, food preparation and weigh-in festivities. As well, the event needs additional mentors and boat captains. Horton said that any legal boat with proof of insurance is welcome – especially pontoon boats for kids in wheelchairs.

All volunteer inquiries should be directed to Brad Whitehead – (256) 483-0834, bradandalicia09@comcast.net.
