Whilst news in the topsy-turvy world of bass fishing marches on, it's good to pause every once in a while and talk about some baits that'll help you hammer on fish.
What's sure to be one of the hottest new baits in 2011 is the brand new Rapala Crankin' Rap. The bait debuted last month at the ICAST show and generated immediate buzz because it's an old-style crank with a touch of modern Rapala perfection.
A photo of the Crankin' Rap appears to right (click to enlarge). BassFans will immediately notice its similarity to the vintage Storm Wiggle Wart, which is now scarce and available only from collectors or on eBay.
Notable about the new Crankin' Rap:
> Just like the original Wiggle Wart, it's built to wobble.
> It's available in five sizes that run from 2 to 14 feet, and in 12 different colors (with external scale patterns and 3D holographic eyes).
> Sizes 03 and 05 feature a square lip for crashing. Sizes 08, 10 and 14 feature a round lip for better diving and digging.
> Hooks are VMC black-nickel trebles.
> Includes an internal rattle.
> Each lure's running depth will be prominently displayed on the bill – a nice feature that anglers can read with a quick glance.
James Lindner has thrown the bait quite a bit and noted: "An added feature to this lure is its high buoyancy. It allows the lure to run with its nose down, adding to the tight tail action that induces fish to strike time and again."
