FLW Outdoors held its Forrest Wood Cup dinner and tournament meeting last night. The dinner was notable for the fact that Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was in attendance and gave a speech. Perdue launched the Go Fish Georgia campaign several years ago and played an active role in luring the Cup to Lake Lanier.
Also of note was FLW Outdoors president and CEO Charlie Evans took time to recognize the accomplishments of anglers in the field – he asked former Cup winners, Anglers of the Year, TBF National champions and such to stand up one-by-one. He gave equal billing to former Bassmaster Classic champions.
Among the pro chatter was the belief by some that brushpiles in Lanier are being actively moved by local anglers in something that could only be coined a "brush war." There's an incredible amount of brush in the lake – too much, some of the pros say. But they were flabbergasted when they fished a brushpile one day, then revisited the area another day only to discover the brush had disappeared.
