Orlando youth wins benefit

The Angling Against Cancer (AAC) benefit tournament is always one of the most talked-about benefits of the year. Pro Terry Segraves created the event in 2000 after he lost his wife Jeva in a tragic car accident. The benefit is held in her honor, and proceeds are donated to cancer research. More than $200,000 has so far been raised for cancer research, and this year's 7th annual event – which took place yesterday at Florida's Lake Toho – will donate proceeds to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The popular event pairs well-known national and regional pros with amateur partners who represent a corporate sponsor. Pro Rick Couch of Ocala, Fla. and partner Cody Detweiler – a 14-year old Orlando resident – beat 22 other teams to win the event. The duo won by .03 ounces over runners-up Mike Surman and Brandon Andrews

Other notable tour pros who fished the event include: Peter Thliveros, Roland Martin, Scott Martin, Preston Clark, Terry Scroggins, Kevin Wirth, Sam Swett, Paul Elias, Charlie Youngers, Glenn Browne, Chris Lane, Steve Daniel, David Walker, Charley Hartley and Russ Lane.
