Monroe: two in Texas

Monroe: two in Texas

Put another mark, and another $100,000, in the win column for Ish Monroe. He won today's Busch Shootout over final challenger Fred Roumbanis. Monroe faced Kevin Wirth in the morning match, and beat him by a little more than 3 pounds. He then smoked Roumbanis by a 4-03 margin.

"I love Texas," he said, in reference to his win today, and earlier this year at the Amistad Elite Series. "The key is always make sure you come in with five." He added that he caught his morning limit by fishing a dam where water was flowing, then docks. In the afternoon, he stuck with the dam, where he'd caught a 7-11 the day before.

It took him 90 minutes this afternoon to catch a small keeper on a worm. Then he switched to a Tru-Tungsten jig tipped with a grub, and started catching them.

"That's a problem that I've had for a lot of years – finishing," he noted. "It comes to a point where you have to close. You catch five, then you have to go out and catch that kicker fish. I feel that's going to help my career."
