Nielsen leads Open

Day 2 of the 3-day WON Bass U.S. Open at Lake Mead saw some movement within the Top 10. Most notably, day-1 leader Aaron Haring of California caught just 2.12 pounds today and fell to 10th. Utah's Scott Nielsen is the new leader. His 15.54 today brought his 2-day total to 27.17.

California's Joe Uribe, Jr. improved one spot and is now 2nd. He trails Nielsen by 4.17. Here's the current Top 10:

1. Scott Nielsen: 27.17
2. Joe Uribe, Jr.: 23.00
3. Tim Klinger: 22.67
4. Byron Velvick: 21.82
5. Aaron Martens: 18.67
6. Brent Ehrler: 18.52
7. Cliff Pirch: 18.37
8. Randy Qualls: 17.13
9. Mark Walsh: 16.73
10. Aaron Haring: 16.62

The big bites were much harder to come by on day 2, and most seemed to come from the Overton arm. But those fish are even more beat-up now, so Nielsen might only need 11 or 12 pounds tomorrow to clinch. He's fishing within sight of Klinger and said: "I only got five bites today, but they were the right ones. It took us all day."

Weather has been nice (air temperatures in the low 90s), but wind has been a factor. The desert gusts start up in the afternoon, and today they reached 15 to 25 mph late in the day.
