Daves benefit next weekend

BassFans are probably well aware of Woo Daves' long-running charity tournament, which takes place each fall. Next Sunday, Sept. 10 marks the 15th consecutive occurrence of this remarkable event, titled the Annual Burrowsville/NASCAR tournament. The event follows Saturday's Richmond, Va. NASCAR night race, and all proceeds go to the Virginia SuperKids charity.

Various NASCAR-associated people will compete, as well as people associated with Daves' sponsors. As an example, Tony Stewart, Jack Roush and Bobby Labonte have participated in previous years.

"SuperKids are mentally challenged adults anywhere from 18 to 50 years old," Daves said. "We're trying to raise money to build them a group home where they can live together under church supervision. We want to build the home in Prince George, Va. We already have the land and everything, and we're slowly working along."

The field will fish Lake Chesdin and the weigh-in will be held at 3:00 at the Burrowsville Ruritan Club on Rt. 10 in Burrowsville. The weigh-in will include "auctions and a lot of other good stuff for the public," Daves noted.

Last year, Tru-Tungsten pro-staff manager Tom Branch, Jr. won the event. Branch recently said: "This is one of the greatest charity events we've ever been involved with. Winning is great, but the smiles and hugs from the SuperKids make it all worth your while. It's great being a sponsor of such an outstanding man and helping his favorite charity."
