Texas FLW Tour and Series pro Sean Hoernke will be one of 16 competitors in the 2006 Total Outdoorsman Challenge, conducted by Field & Stream magazine.
The event, set for Sept. 8-9 near Nashville, Tenn., will feature 12 outdoor professionals (anglers, outfitters, Olympic shooters, etc.) and four amateurs. The amateurs were picked from applications submitted to the magazine by readers.
Competition will be conducted in seven categories: baitcasting, fly casting, ATV skills, endurance, archery, rifle and shotgun.
"I've been training every day, working on some of the other disciplines," the 29-year-old Hoernke said. "My arm is black and blue from shooting several hundred rounds of five-stand (sporting clays) to prepare for the shotgun contest.
"I think if I can win one of the disciplines and be consistent in the others, then I have a chance to win overall. If I don't win the baitcasting competition, I'd better tuck my head and bow out gracefully, because I'll never hear the end of it."
