Official practice began yesterday for this week's Bassmaster Legends Major at the Arkansas River near Little Rock, Ark. BassFan spoke with Mark Tucker late last night for a quick glimpse at the fishing. Yep, the fishing's tough. Another point of interest: the Little Rock pool has been selected for the six-hole course. Reportedly, a local angler caught an 8 1/2-pounder in that pool sometime last month.
"I really think if a guy can catch 7 to 8 pounds a day he'll make the Top 12," Tucker said. "There are some big bites here – I had one that looked to be anywhere from 5 1/2 to 7 pounds follow my bait to the boat. And I caught two keepers. But if a guy can catch three or four good fish a day, he'll do real good."
He added that the first day of practice wasn't much better for his roommates Peter Thliveros, Kenyon Hill, Bernie Schultz or Mike Wurm.
Tucker also noted: "I don't think it'll favor the finesse guys. A little jigworm will probably work, but I think the guys who throw a bigger bait and get three bites on that bigger bait will have some healthy fish."
