Yelas' time off

Yelas' time off

What does veteran pro angler Jay Yelas do when he goes on vacation? Well, he fishes, but not necessarily for bass.

He's spent most of the time since the FLW Tour Championship on a family trip to Oregon (the Texas resident is a California native, but he attended Oregon State). The picture at right shows the haul from a salmon-fishing excursion with brother-in-law Craig Bender, 10-year-old daughter Hannah and nephews Brennan, 11, and Cameron, 6, out of Coyote Rock Resort in Lincoln City. That's Jay decked out in Oregon State garb.

He said the kids caught all of the fish (or at least supplied considerable help). The biggest weighed 36 pounds, and the others tipped the scales at 29 and 23 pounds.

"That's what it's all about," he said. "You see a little kid hooked up with a big fish like that, it doesn't get any better."
