There are BassFans, and then there are BassFans, as the saying goes. And it would be tougher to find a more hardcore BassFan than Brian Payne of Lincoln Park, Mich. Here's a shot of him from the recent FLW Tour Championship (FLWTC) alongside Luke Clausen. Yep, that's one of Clausen's old shirts Payne has on. He bought it from a friend of Clausen's, along with six of Andy Morgan's shirts.
He told BassFan that the reason he attended this year's FLWTC was: "I love the sport of fishing and hope to some day be where these pros are." But there's another reason, too. He and his wife named their 6-month-old son Logan Martin, after Lake Logan Martin – site of the FLWTC. He also won a fishing trip with Aaron Martens at nearby Lay Lake "and had a blast."
More good news for Payne. He won the silent auction at the FLWTC and received a signed jersey from champion Brent Ehrler. "We bought it for the baby since it was our son's first time being at the Championship and it (was at) the lake we named him after. I also was able to catch up with Brent after he won to sign the jersey to my son."
Payne noted he doesn't fish competitively now, but hopes to start fishing BFLs soon.
