Two teenagers and one of their fathers remain missing on the Tennessee River after participating in a high school fishing tournament at Lake Pickwick last Saturday.
According to a report posted to the WKRN website, two 15-year-olds from Obion County, located in northwest Tennessee, and a father of one of the teens who served as a chaperone during the tournament, were last seen Saturday afternoon by fellow competitors in an area of Pickwick.
They weren't reported missing, however, until 9 p.m. Sunday, the report says.
Search crews from multiple agencies and teams of volunteers have been searching a 30-mile stretch of the river, but on Wednesday the thrust of the search has shifted from rescue to recovery. The boat was recovered Monday morning near the Lemert Bridge in Savannah, Tenn., roughly 14 miles from the Pickwick Dam.
It's believed the boat, which had a broken outboard engine and ran only on the trolling motor, went through the dam since the TWRA confirmed surveillance cameras on the side nearest to Pickwick Landing State Park captured the three anglers in the missing boat around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The identities of the three individuals have not been released. Persistent rain has also impacted search efforts, according to the story.
“Rain is the problem that we’ve had. It’s put a lot of water behind the dam, which means a lot of water coming through the dam. So rain equals more volume and we sure don’t want that,” Amy Spencer told the station.
The Obion County Student Angler team is the reigning FLW/SAF Tennessee High School state champions.
