Elites: Another day canceled

High winds again prompted B.A.S.S. officials to cancel a day of competition at the St. Johns River Elite Series.

A wind advisory from the National Weather Service was in effect from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts over 40, making the fishery unsafe for boaters.

In spite of a second straight cancellation, the Bassmaster Elite Series Outdoors Expo will be open at 2 p.m. ET Friday at the Palatka Riverfront Park. Fans will be able to meet Elite Series pros for autographs, photos and to share stories.

Competition is expected to begin Saturday morning, when the field of 88 anglers launches at 7:15 a.m. from Palatka City Dock and Boat Ramp. Weigh-ins will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Palatka Riverfront Park. The full field of 88 anglers will compete Saturday and Sunday with the current plan calling for the tournament to conclude Monday with a shortened competition day for the top 20 anglers.
