Expansion planned at Guntersville facility

Goose Pond Colony Resort, a municipally owned resort and golf facility at Lake Guntersville in Scottsboro, Ala., has announced plans for a major upgrade and expansion of the resort’s boat-launching facilities. The projects, scheduled for completion this winter include the creation of additional ramps, additional parking, extending the existing ramp and improving traffic flow and the addition of a new handicap-access ramp.

“Our expansion plan demonstrates our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all of the residents of the Scottsboro community, as well as for all our visitors at Goose Pond Colony Resort,” said general manager Lyle Sosebee. “This planned expansion of our boat ramp will add new lanes to the existing boat ramp, expanding the ramp to eight lanes from our existing three. The expansion will also include a new handicap-accessible pier with a ramp that allows wheelchair users to enter their boats easily and securely. We’re also adding additional docks for loading, a new pavilion and vendor area, plus many other improvements that will further enhance Goose Pond’s reputation as one of the top locations for freshwater fishing in the country.”

Since 2011, Goose Pond Colony has invested more than $4.97 million in improvements across the entire complex. The largest of these have been green renovations at the Plantation Golf Course, two major marina expansions and extensive renovations and expansion of the resort’s cabins and campground.

“Thanks to the support of Scottsboro Mayor Robin Shelton and our city council, these most recent upgrades will help Goose Pond to continue to positively impact our area’s tourism and the tax dollars it brings to our local economy,” said Sosebee.
