Chamblee, 84, six-time Classic qualifier, passes

Six-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier Paul Chamblee passed away last Wednesday in Raleigh, N.C., BassFan has learned. He was 84.

A native of Raleigh, Chamblee was an avid outdoorsman, according to his obituary, and after serving in the U.S. Army and working in the insurance industry, he opened a sporting goods store called Chamblee's Outdoor Outfitters. He also helped start the Wake County Wildlife Club and Wake County Bass Masters Club.

Chamblee's run of Classics came between 1974-79 with his best finish (3rd) occurring at Currituck Sound in 1975. In that tournament, he caught a 26-01 (eight bass) stringer on day 1 and held nearly a 6-pound lead entering the final day. He failed to catch a keeper on the last day and slipped to 3rd. He finished 6th at Lake Guntersville the following year.

Chamblee is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma, two children, one sister and two grandchildren.
