Minnesota angler now on top at KY Lake

Minnesota resident Chad Foster weighed a four-fish, 13-09 sack on Friday to take over the lead at the FLW Series Championship at Kentucky Lake. His 33-06 total for 2 days gave him a 1-13 advantage as the field was cut to the top 10.

Reigning FLW Tour Angler of the Year Bryan Thrift, who boxed 27 1/2 pounds on day 1, managed just two fish for 3-09 and dropped to 3rd.

Foster overcame the stingy conditions and followed up his 19-pound opening-day limit with four solid keepers. He's fishing the southern portion of the lake, near New Johnsonville, and said he has multiple shallow areas with a lot of potential.

“There’s a bunch of fish in my area," he said. "I’m getting the bites, but they were biting weird today. There were five or six fish that didn’t eat really eat the bait. I feel fortunate to have four today.”

Foster said his areas range from 6 inches to 3 feet in depth and that the wind played a key role in his success on day 2.

“I caught my two biggest fish in three casts as soon as the wind switched and started blowing,” said Foster. “It was slick calm this morning. I think the fish were getting too good of a look at the bait.”

Here are the totals for the anglers who advanced to the final day:

1. Chad Foster: 33-06
2. Larry Stoafer: 31-09
3. Bryan Thrift: 31-01
4. Bradford Beavers: 30-13
5. Tim Fox: 28-13
6, Jason Abram: 28-08
7. Todd Hollowell: 28-07
8. John Soukup: 27-07
9. Michael Mathee: 27-01
10. Bill Chapman: 26-13
