Host nation South Africa captured the gold medal today at the 13th annual Black Bass World Championships at the Vaal River.
South Africa accumulated 73.5 penalty points over the three-day competition and South Africa Team A of Richard Eldridge and August Lingnau caught a 5.37-kilogram (11.83 pounds) stringer today to aid in the victory.
Team USA rallied from fourth place after day 2 to claim the silver medal with 108.5 penalty points. The U.S. team was led by the tandem of James Watson and Fred Roumbanis today with a 4.97-kg bag, good for second among the 39 teams today. Team USA had 13.32 kg overall today, best among the 13 countries.
David Dudley and Mark Rose had the fifth-biggest stringer today with 4.5 kg while Scott Martin and Scott Canterbury had the ninth-best bag with 3.85 kg.
