Classic Tidbits

Here are a few interesting notes from the Bassmaster Classic:

The bug
Mark Menendez has the flu, and he's definitely not 100%. He's pretty much recovered from his serious bout with Meningitis last year, but this is a separate issue.

"I'm down," he said. "I got sick in practice and I've had 3 days of antibiotics and I feel 100% better, but nowhere near 100%. But that could play to my strengths. It'll slow me down and help me fish real thorough. That could be an important factor."

Brian Snowden also had the flu which forced him off the water early for each day of pre-practice, but he's over it now.

Best quote so far
Federation qualifier Joel St. Germain: "If the Red Sox can win a World Series, I can win the Classic."

No shirts yet
Both Edwin Evers and Tim Horton have not received their Classic shirts yet. Both are new-look shirts, and they're expected to arrive today.

Jeff Kriet did get his new shirt. It's red, white and blue with GetWorkComp.com as the primary signage.

Swindle's new sponsors
Gerald Swindle signed a new sponsor agreement with Advance Auto Parts. He left P-Line and is now sponsored by Berkley line, and he also joined up with Tru-Tungsten.

Boat crunch
The driver who pulled Joe Conway's boat out of the water after the official practice cut it a little too hard to the left. He crunched the trailer step pretty good, but the boat seemed okay.

Toyota team
The new Toyota fishing team hasn't been announced yet, but it's believed the team will be composed of: Terry Scroggins, Mike Iaconelli and Greg Hackney. A fourth member is expected be the current BASS Rookie of the Year (Dave Wolak), which will change yearly.

Toyota is expected to make a major announcement this afternoon (Thursday).

Did you know? Berkley Gulp! baits are at least as durable as soft-plastic baits.
