Tool co. locks up Hirosky

Paul Hirosky, a Bassmaster Elite Series rookie, landed a sponsorship deal with Channellock Inc., maker of tools including the patented Channellock pliers. Hirosky hails from Guys Mills, Pa. and Channellock headquarters is only a few miles away in Meadville. The roots of the deal formed when Hirosky was paired with Channellock VP Jon DeArment (pictured with Hirosky), and the two won the Conneaut Lake United Way Bass Classic team tournament.

DeArment said: "Competing in the United Way tournament with Paul opened my eyes to the explosive growth of competitive bass fishing and the opportunities it offers for a company like ours. Channellock's current and future customers are the millions of men, women and children across the country who love the outdoors, enjoy spending time with their families and work hard on the job and around the house."

DeArment added, "From a business standpoint, Paul has all the characteristics that a sponsor demands. He knows his sport inside and out, he has a demonstrated ability to win and he's a well-spoken, charismatic and confident person. When you put the pieces together, it all makes sense."

Hirosky won the 2005 Erie Bassmaster Northern Open and finished 6th in the Northern points. He's pumped about the deal. "I'm excited to be teamed up with Channellock for my rookie season on the Citgo Bassmaster Elite Series," he said. "Many people at Channellock and their customers share a love for outdoor activities. I think this is a natural extension of their interests.

"I give Channellock credit for deciding to get involved in this energizing and growing sport. Hopefully my involvement on the national tournament scene can help generate excitement and exposure for the Channellock brand."
