New Stratos trail

New Stratos trail

Before the breakup of OMC, the Stratos/Javelin Tournament Trail was a major player in the close-to-home weekend-tournament business. In what seems to be a desire to resurrect that tradition, FLW Outdoors today announced the launch of a brand new Stratos Owners' Tournament Trail for 2006.

Why will FLW Outdoors run the new trail? Presumably because Stratos is a Genmar Holdings Inc. boat brand, and Irwin Jacobs is both Genmar chairman and CEO and FLW Outdoors chairman.

Here's a look at the key details of the new trail:

  • It will be a team circuit that caters to Stratos and Javelin owners.
  • There will be six 2-day regionals where 1st place pays $10,000 cash.
  • The Top 35 teams from four of the regionals, plus the Top 20 from the California Delta regional and Top 10 from the Bay of Quinte (Ontario) regional will be invited to the 2006 Stratos Owners' Championship.
  • The winning team from each of the U.S.-based regionals will also advance as co-anglers to the 2007 Forrest Wood Cup.
  • Entry fees are $200 per team, per event for regionals and $300 per team for the Stratos Owners' Championship.
  • To be eligible for competition, at least one member of each team must be the registered owner of a Stratos or Javelin boat that will be used during each tournament.
  • Registration begins Jan. 16.
  • Further details are available at the FLW Outdoors site.
