Scott’s iconic property for sale

Ray Scott’s Legacy Lakes property in Alabama is up for sale.

The asking price for the 200-plus acre plot in Pintlala, Ala., that includes a 5,000-square foot main house, a 55-acre trophy bass lake and an 80-acre high-fenced whitetail deer preserve is $3.4 million.

National Land Realty, based in Greenville, S.C., is marketing the property on behalf of Scott.

“It’s tough to leave,” Scott said in a news release announcing the property’s listing. “But I won’t be far away. I’ll be across the hill on a secluded side of the property in a small cottage on an old 16-acre lake. It’s perfect for me, my wife and our three dogs. I only hope that the next owner will enjoy the estate as much as we have.”

The Legacy Lakes property was finished in 1986, but Scott had purchased the land much earlier after realizing the potential of the rolling landscape about 15 miles south of Montgomery. It gave the founder of B.A.S.S. a blank canvas to create a sportsman’s paradise and design a bass fishing destination that Outdoor Life called the best lake in America in 2010.

The jewel of the property is Presidents Lake, a carefully managed catch-and-release fishery that is full of pure-strain Florida largemouth and loaded with all types of cover, structure and plentiful forage. The lake has hosted a number of celebrities and two Presidents – George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. Four-time Bassmaster Classic winner Rick Clunn caught his personal-best bass at Presidents Lake – a 13-15 giant – prompting Scott to install a “Clunn Hole” sign near where it was caught.

The main lodge house features four bedrooms (all with views of the main lake) and 4 1/2 bathrooms. A massive stone fireplace highlights the great room. A nearby boathouse has an upstairs loft and is a short walk to the two-bedroom guest cabin, which also sits along the water.
