Howell prepping for another boat giveaway

Elite Series angler Randy Howell is again teaming up with sponsor King’s Home to give his boat away as part of the organization’s annual Kampfire for the King event next month.

On Saturday, Nov. 14, Howell will be on hand at King’s Home in Chelsea, Ala., to assist with a kids’ fishing rodeo and also to give away his fully-loaded 2015 tournament boat, named Hope V, as this will mark the fifth year that he’s given his boat away as part of the charitable cause.

Proceeds will benefit King’s Home, a ministry that aids women and children who have been abandoned, abused or neglected.

“Last year, we had 12 high school fishing teams and a couple college teams help out so we have 150 fishing team members helping 125 kids,” Howell said. “We hope to top that this year. It’s turned into a two-part benefit for everybody. It’s community service points for school for the kids and the kids in need get a 1-on-1 experience with a fishing team member. For some of these kids, this is the only chance they’ll get to fish all year.”

Howell said the boat giveaway initiative has raised nearly $500,000 for King’s Home and he hopes it continues to grow each year.

“I’ve always appreciated the support of the fishing community,” he said. “This event certainly helps a lot of people in a lot of ways.”
