Mark Menendez was just one spot away from a Bassmaster Classic berth at the conclusion of the AOY Championship, but he's now nine places farther down the points list and out of contention should another Classic slot open up due to a self-reported violation from the final day at Wisconsin's Sturgeon Bay.
According to an article on Bassmaster.com, the veteran from Kentucky told tournament director Trip Weldon on Monday that he'd inadvertently kept a fish hooked outside the mouth on day 3, which is a violation of Wisconsin regulations. His weight for that day was disqualified and he dropped from 41st to 50th in the points, leaving Jonathon VanDam at the top of the list if another Classic spot becomes available via the Bassmaster Opens.
