Cup champ Knight breaks foot

Reigning Forrest Wood Cup champion Brad Knight broke several bones in his right foot on Thursday while trying to change a flat tire on his boat trailer.

According to an account published on FLWOutdoors.com, Knight's wife, Becky, was attempting to pull the boat trailer onto a piece of wood so the flat tire would be easy to change. When the front tire fell off the piece of wood, it fell on Knight's foot.

“It literally bent my front toes back so the nails were against the top of my foot,” Knight told FLWOutdoors.com. “My wife backed up so I got my foot loose, but I felt woozy. I just had to sit down for a couple of minutes to clear my head. I’ve never really hurt myself in an accident like that before and hope I never do again – it was excruciating.”

Knight said the physicians at a local urgent care facility told him he had broken some small bones in his foot, including some toes, and torn some ligaments. He opted for a padded wood rather than a immobilizing cast.

Knight said he's looking at a 4- to 6-week period before the boot can be removed.

"It was just a total lack of good judgment on my part," he added. "Next time I’ll use a jack."
