Veteran Dallas Morning News outdoor writer Ray Sasser produced a piece over the weekend discussing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's plan to determine whether alligator gar are a big factor in the 65-percent decline in the bass population at Falcon Lake. Decades-old studies in the Lonestar State indicated that gar don't eat many bass, but one completed recently at Mexico's Lake Guerrero determined that bass constitute about half of the average gar's diet.
