Cup: Red will bring the heat

No matter which weather website we seem to look at, it appears that conditions for next month's Forrest Wood Cup are going to be brutally hot. Forecasts have been wrong before, but it's unlikely the predictions we've been seeing for the Shreveport/Bossier City, La., area are going to be that far off the mark.

Not that it was unexpected, though, seeing that mid August is typically the hottest time of the year in western Louisiana.

Next week, daytime highs are expected to top out above 100 degrees and stay that way through the end of July. Once the calendar flips to August, highs are expected to remain in the 90s and lows will be consistently in the upper 70s.

Last year, the average high temperature for the week of Aug. 11-18 was 94 degrees and the average low was 75, according WeatherUnderground.com. The year before the average high was 102 with an average low of 81. In 2010, it was 99 and 80.

Tournament waters (pools 3, 4 and 5) go off limits to competitors starting July 28 and will re-open for official practice on Sunday, Aug. 11.
