Bass University to hit the water

The Bass University announced this week that it's expanded its educational program to offer On-Water Training trips in addition to classroom-style bass fishing instruction events. The On-Water Training program features in-depth bass fishing training trips that are taught by a growing list of TBU instructors on many lakes and rivers across the country.

“The Bass University's On-Water Training program is the next step in bass fishing education," said Pete Gluszek, co-founder of TBU with Mike Iaconelli. “This program takes our students out of the classroom and onto the water in real-time fishing situations. From seasonal patterns to boat positioning to triggering strikes, On Water Training is the most effective way to gain hands-on bass fishing education."

Each training day is customized to fit the angler’s needs. Beginner to advanced, TBU instructors will work with each angler prior to the trip to develop a program designed to move their fishing knowledge and skill-set to the next level.

Once a program is developed, TBU instructors will take the students on the water to teach and share their knowledge from years of experience as a top professional angler.

“If you are interested in learning how to become a better bass fisherman, hear all the inside secrets and know-how, which lures you need to use to catch a lot of fish, then The Bass University is where you need to be,” said George Cochran, two-time Bassmaster Classic champion and Forrest Wood Cup winner.

On-Water Training instructors include Gluszek (Upper Chesapeake River, Delaware River), Mark Menendez (Kentucky/Barkley lakes and the rivers below the dams), Cochran (Lake Hamilton, Lake Ouachita, the Arkansas River and local rivers within 200 miles of Hot Springs, Ark.) and Dave Mansue (Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend). Arrangements can be made to conduct training trips on various bodies of water throughout the country.

A 2- or 3-day training trip with Cochran at Lake Champlain is also being offered.

Lessons will include proper casting techniques, rigging, identifying fish-holding targets, seasonal movements, boat positioning, rough-water boat operation, sonar/GPS/SideImaging, smallmouth vs. largemouth patterns, grass fishing, current strategies, breaking down a new body of water, advanced tournament strategy and targeting trophy bass. Techniques covered will consist of cranking, flipping, pitching, topwater, power-fishing, finesse-fishing, dropshotting, Carolina-rigging and more.

The instructors will focus on the lessons and techniques that will drastically improve the student’s fishing skills and knowledge. Following each training day, a practice program will be developed for each student. Students will have access to their instructor following the trip to ask questions as they continue their training.
