Photo surfaces of Perry, fish

A photograph of George W. Perry holding a giant largemouth bass was recently e-mailed to an outdoors writer for the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle, touching off speculation that the fish depicted in the image could be the world-record fish Perry caught 81 years ago.

According to an article published in last Saturday's edition of the Chronicle, an unidentified person e-mailed the image to Chronicle outdoors writer Bill Baab, who authored Remembering George W. Perry, a book that chronicled all known details of Perry's record 22-pound, 4-ounce fish, which was caught at Montgomery Lake, an oxbow lake on the Ocmulgee River.

The article stated that the person who sent the photo identified himself as a descendent of a man who was Perry’s companion the day the famous fish was landed. The image was found in a barn the family owned in Florida.
