Scatter Rap Challenge offers tips, prizes

Six Guys. Five Days. 100 miles. The mission – fish Lake of the Woods from Kenora, Ontario, south to Baudette, Minn., covering more than 100 miles of water in 5 days using nothing but the new Rapala Scatter Rap and Cabela's rods, reels, rain gear and accessories.

“The challenge is to see what we can do with this exciting new bait,” says Rapala pro and In-Depth Outdoors TV host James Holst, who will captain a boat in the Scatter Rap Challenge. “After fishing 100 miles on Lake of the Woods in 5 days, we’ll learn all the ways to catch ’em on Scatter Raps.”

The patent-pending Scatter Rap baits come in four classic Rapala balsa body shapes – Crank, Minnow, Shad and CountDown – in 14 classic and new color patterns. Each features an innovative, curved “Scatter Lip,” which creates the most evasive, erratic, aggressive sweeping action ever seen.

“By varying reel speed, we will see an immediate sweeping action that perfectly mimics a spooked baitfish fleeing attack, moving from one side to the next – triggering reactive bites,” said former tour pro and Rapala pro-staffer Mark Fisher, who will also captain a boat in the event.

Ideal for multi-species anglers, Scatter Raps can be cast or trolled, making them perfect for a variety of fishing applications.

“We’ll have to be versatile and willing to change tactics as structure and conditions dictate,” Holst said. “We're tackling nearly 1 million acres of water with no Plan B and the world watching.”

Sign up at www.Cabelas.com/ScatterRap to follow all of the daily action online from June 17-21, and to become eligible to win daily prizes from Scatter Rap Challenge sponsors Rapala and Cabela’s. Fans can also follow the action on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/ScatterRapChallenge.

“We will be sharing video reports from the lake three times a day – morning, noon and night,” Fisher said. “We'll take you along on the journey, sharing every hookset, every big fish landed and every hot-spot uncovered along the way.”

“Our reports will include sharing how and where we're catching fish – down to the GPS coordinates – so people can use the information we're sharing and catch more fish on their next trip to Lake of the Woods,” said Holst, who will be producing a two-part Fox Sports North TV special documenting the trip.

Online coverage of the Scatter Rap Challenge will also showcase fishing-tip videos featuring Al, James and Ron Lindner, Tony Roach, Tom Neustrom, Fisher, Holst and several other Rapala and In-Depth Outdoors pro-staffers.

The Scatter Rap Challenge TV show will air on Fox Sports North on consecutive Sundays (June 23 and 30) immediately after the Minnesota Twins games on those days.
