> What they’re saying: “I think the entire lake will be in play and for a guy to do well, he’s going to have to develop a pattern, because I don’t think any one area will hold up for three days,” said Bassmaster Elite Series veteran Matt Herren, a resident of nearby Ashville, Ala. “It will be a pattern tournament; you’re going to have to run new stuff every day. It’s not going to be rocket science; it’s just going to be figuring out what the pattern of the day is. That lake’s kind of fickle. One day you go out and they’ll be all over rock-type banks and the next day they’re not there – they’re on docks or laydowns. You just have to go fishing every morning and let them tell you what to do. Spotted bass get pretty aggressive in the fall, as well as largemouth, and they’re both going to be bait-oriented. I think whoever wins the tournament will have some of both, but you’re going to need that kicker largemouth. You can catch a lot of 3- to 4-pound spots, but if you want a 5- to 6-pound bite, you’re going to have to go look for a largemouth. I think it will have to be an integrated approach.”
