McMillan moves to top

Brandon McMillan moved up two places and into the lead on day 2 of the Lake Toho Bassmaster Southern Open as he weighed a 13-15 sack that gave him a 38-08 total.

“I knew I couldn’t duplicate what I did yesterday because I beat on them pretty hard,” said McMillan, whose stringer was more than 10 1/2 pounds lighter than the one he brought to the scale on day 1. “So today I was doing a little bit of everything from flipping to swimming a jig to catch what I caught.”

He has a 2-pound lead over 2nd-place Todd Auten, who climbed 11 spots. Bobby Lane jumped from 18th to 3rd, one place ahead of day-1 leader Andrew Slegona, who managed just two small fish after boxing 31 pounds on day 1.

“Man, hard to believe that I could stay in the Top 5 with a day like that on a lake like this,” Slegona said.

Here are the totals for the 12 anglers who advanced to the final day:

1. Brandon McMillan: 38-08
2. Todd Auten: 36-08
3. Bobby Lane: 34-13
4. Andrew Slegona: 34-09
5. Gerald Swindle: 34-03
6. Ed Loughran 31-11
7. Brock Mosley: 31-04
8. Trevor Fitzgerald: 31-03
9. Chad Morgenthaler: 30-04
10. Garrett Rocamora: 39-03
11. Kelley Jaye: 29-02
