My wife's water broke, so I'm driving to Phoenix. Eleven hours is about as fast as I can get there. I'm driving because there weren't any flights available out of San Antonio until tomorrow, and I'm good at driving. She's not in labor yet, so they're going to induce.

I caught one big one today that weighed 8-11 and two little runts. That's it.

I got one little fish off my starting spot, and broke one off, and then just went prefishing. I went to a ledge I usually catch them on and that's where I caught the 8-11. It was on a 1-ounce Omega jig with a Yamamoto Double Tail. I had three keepers at that point with 2 hours left.

I stayed deep, but it turns out most guys caught them on a swimbait this afternoon, whereas I got off the swimbait. I was just looking for one more big bite, but it probably turned out right that I didn't make the cut anyway.

John Murray – Practice
Thursday, March 12, 2009

I have bad tendonitis in my left shoulder, I couldn't go out on the final practice day. I aggravated something in there. So I took that time off, took some pain-killer, and think I can fish. Thank God it's my left shoulder. I'm not going to be jerkbaiting or anything, but I can work a Carolina-rig.

Overall, I had a tough first day of practice, but the day after was a little better. I had one nice fish at about 8 pounds, but a lot of little ones. I didn't really get on anything too exciting. I'm going to go grind it out deep the first day.

There are probably some post-spawn fish, but most are spawning. But we have this huge front that came through that dropped the temperature 10 or 15 degrees. It had been 80 degrees the couple of days before that, so I think some of the topwater patterns and such will shut down a little bit.

The lake's full right now, so there's acres and acres of trees and cover, where there was only a little bit of cover years ago.
