John Murray – Competition
Friday, August 24, 2007

I knew that not getting that fifth keeper today was going to cost me (a check). I had about 2 hours to catch it, but I just never could.

I really only had two spots – a tree in the main current and a log in the lily pads. I caught all my fish flipping a Berkley Chigger Craw, and all four of them today came off the log.

I just kept coming back to it. I worked all around it, but all I caught were dinks.

My real problem was only having the two spots. If I'd had one more, I probably could have done a lot better.

Where they were, there were a lot of fish, and once in awhile you'd get a keeper. But there was also a lot of dead water out there.

I think I was 29th last year in this same tournament at Little Rock, so I'm consistently just out of the money.

John Murray – Practice
Wednesday, August 22, 2007

The first 2 days I probably caught 40 fish, but I never had one keeper. Today (Wednesday) I caught three keepers, so that was a little better, but I'm not on anything too solid.

I caught one keeper flipping and one on structure, so I'll bounce back and forth between them. I like to get one good bite in practice to tell me what the bigger fish might be doing, but I just never had it here. It looks like I'll have to spend some more time pre-fishing.

The usual deal here is that a few guys get on good stuff while everybody else struggles. I've rarely caught them good in Arkansas, so we'll just go out and see what happens.
