The fishing was so good that it's hard to describe. I caught fish on a spinnerbait, a Chatterbait, a crankbait – you could catch them on anything, you just had to get the bigger ones. Today a guy who'd been watching me fish (my best spot) was on it and I never got on there. I fished around it and caught quite a few, but never got any bigger ones.

The neat thing today was I caught some fish in 25 feet of water on a 10-inch Berkley PowerWorm and a 3/4-ounce spinnerbait. You could catch them on topwater or down 25 feet – pick your poison. I just needed that 7- or 8-pounder and I went deep thinking I could wind one out of there, but I never did. But it was just incredible fishing.

The first day I probably caught 30 or 40 fish in a row – it would've gone on as long as I wanted to cast. I grabbed a big swimbait just to see if they wouldn't hit it and I caught some on that, too. It was crazy, and it was just a great week.

John Murray – practice

It should be awesome – this lake is fishing as good as I've ever seen it. The biggest fish I caught in practice was about 5 pounds, but there's a lot of bigger ones being caught. It'll probably take 18 pounds a day to get a check.

You can catch them flipping in inches of water, on topwaters or out on the deep ledges cranking. The shad spawn is going to be a major player in the first hour or two of the morning.

The key is going to be finding the 4- and 5-pounders. I'll probably stick with a spinnerbait on the shad spawn in the morning and then gradually work my way out a little deeper. I'll keep moving around a lot – they bite pretty good when you find them.
