I've fished this lake a few times before, and I really predicted good fishing because of all the reports out of Guntersville and Wilson. But it's been pretty tough. You can catch quite a few keepers, but I've only caught one fish over 4 pounds in 2 days. I haven't found the quality yet.

I think with this lake, there are going to times when those good ones will move in. So I think you can pull up on a spot and catch 1 1/2-pounders today, and you might pull up in the tournament and catch 3s and 4s. There are so many good fish in this lake that you just have to find the places where the fish live, and hope the better ones move in. Kentucky Lake's that way too – you fish a spot and sometimes they're little, sometimes they're big.

I'm catching fish in all depths – from 2 inches down to 30 feet – and there are a lot of things happening. I think it'll be interesting to see what the better quality fish are doing here.

I think you can fish both deep and shallow. Well, I say deep, but nothing's really deep here – I mean more to say "outside stuff." I do think the better fish will be out on the flats. I remember a couple of years ago, when we were here in May for the FLW Tour. Mike Hawkes caught 20 pounds on day 2 to make the cut, then the next day he only caught one fish. So depending on what they're doing with flow, that makes a big difference here.

Yesterday the flow seemed good. It seems like they're pulling water into Wilson, but it's not coming through Guntersville as much. There should be a little flow in the morning, then at about 11:00 the flows are supposed to pick up.

From what I've seen, and knowing a little about the lake, I'd say it'll take an average of about 13 pounds a day to make the Top-12 cut.
