Cabela's Top Gun Championship Airs
On Outdoor Life Network This Saturday
- BassFan Brings Bass Fishing TV Back To Roots -

PORTLAND, Ore. -- This Saturday, Sept. 24, at 10:00 a.m. EST, the Cabela's Top Gun Championship will air on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). Produced by BassFan, the show combines the best of "old school" and "new school" bass fishing tournament coverage.

"Bass fishing angler-fans still love the Bob Cobb-produced 'Bassmasters' shows from the '80s and '90s," said BassFan CEO Jay Kumar, noting that "those fans are everyone from people now in their 20s and 30s to guys in their 50s.

"That's not nostalgia. Those shows were so good precisely because they lacked the glitz of bass fishing coverage you see today on ESPN and FOX. They simply told great stories, the stories inherent in all competition. And in true journalistic fashion, Bob let the anglers tell those stories by their actions on the water – and you learned things from watching them.

"That's what we tried to do with the Cabela's Top Gun Championship show," Kumar said. "But I really hesitate to say that because those shows were so good, and no one will ever be able to do what Bob did. But we didn't try to copy his style verbatim. That flavor is what we were shooting for – with some new-school-type graphics and BassFan's no bias, no hype, just let the anglers do the talking style."

He reiterated: "It's different from what's on ESPN and FOX, and I think all the angler-fans out there looking for clean, family-friendly, fun and interesting tournament coverage, from which they can actually learn something, will enjoy it."

The Cabela's Top Gun Championship show will also include a segment on Evansville, Ind. weekend angler Marty Sisk coming from an amazing 18th place to win the inaugural Skeeter BassFan Army Weekend Warrior Championship.
