A trap some anglers fall into when targeting bedding fish is to tie on baits with a larger profile. It's understandable because the larger baits allow you to better see the bait in the water and presumably gives the fish more incentive to chomp.

Not so, says Bassmaster Elite Series angler Jared Lintner. The California native has been picking off spawners for several years out west (and elsewhere) by downsizing what's on the end of his flipping stick or in some cases light-line spinning tackle.
