These aren’t your father’s tackle boxes. Heck, at first glance they don’t even look like tackle boxes – but that’s why I like them.
The new Ike Quotient IQ Series of utility boxes from Flambeau took some thought and effort on the design side with input from Elite Series competitor Mike Iaconelli, a former Bassmaster Classic winner and B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year.
The end result is an ultra-sturdy storage system that maximizes versatility, giving users the ability to remove small trays without disrupting the rest of the box. To some, the boxes might resemble storage systems found on the shelves at a home improvement warehouse, but make no mistake – any angler will find a use for them. The heavy-duty feel and quality of the build of these boxes only adds to their appeal.
Three sizes are available to cover the storage needs across the spectrum. The big selling point of this series is the trays are made with Flambeau’s patented Zerust treatment that guards against corrosion. The tops are transparent, which makes it easy to identify what’s in each tray.
The smaller 140-IQ box (dimensions: 13 1/4" x 8 1/8" x 2 1/4”) is ideal for sorting out terminal tackle like hooks, swivels, snaps, bobber stops, beads, weights, etc. It comes with 12 smaller trays and three medium trays, all of which are deep enough to allow for users to keep most of their tackle in the original packaging – hooks would be best kept loose in this box. It can also be used for boat accessories like fuses, hose and cable clamps, screws, etc.
The 141-IQ box is the midsize version (dimensions: 16 3/4" x 13 1/8" x 2 1/4") and is the same depth as the 140 size so the trays (it comes with seven large, seven medium and four small) that come with both boxes are totally interchangeable, making it simple to transfer tackle to and from a box you might take on the boat.
The 142-IQ largest of the three (dimensions: 16 1/2" x 13 1/4" x 4 1/4") and comes with eight trays (four jumbo and four large) that are twice as deep as the trays in the other two boxes. This box makes a great option for storing unopened baits (jigs, crankbaits, smaller soft plastics, etc.) for later use.
The genius of the Quotient boxes is the lack of dividers that can sometimes warp or pop loose, leading to a tangled, unorganized mess. The blue boxes/trays and the tight-fitting lid that locks down with two hefty latches make for a mess-proof system any angler will appreciate.
These boxes were designed and built to last. Their heavy-duty feel should allow them to stand up to years of use and/or abuse in or out of the boat.
