The Real Ayu (top) and Real BG are two of Lucky Craft's newest products for 2016.
By BassFan Staff
Lucky Craft’s reputation as a premium lure manufacturer has been built through years of research and development and a commitment to using the finest materials and employing a pain-staking quality control process.
The company’s product lineup is extensive and is loaded with proven fish-catching baits, from the Sammy topwater to the Pointer series of jerkbaits, but like many other lure companies, Lucky Craft is always seeking to develop new tools for anglers.
This year, Lucky Craft has added several new lures to its lineup. Some are additions to existing product lines while others are completely brand new. One highlight of some of the new products is the much lower retail price point they’ll be at compared to what BassFans are used to seeing from the Japanese company.
From new wire baits to big glide baits, Lucky Craft was pretty ambitious with its new product push for 2016 as it celebrates its 25th year of marketing its products in North America.

SKT Series Crazy Colorado Willow Series Spinnerbait
Built to the specs of former Bassmaster Classic winner and Elite Series AOY Skeet Reese, this spinnerbait features a new twist in the form of two small Colorado blades on the shaft just below the larger willow leaf blade. The twin blades introduce a noise element in the water as they click together on the retrieve. These also feature realistic, premium finishes and matching skirt patterns. Available in 5/8 and 3/4 oz. sizes.
Real Ayu Glide Bait
At 7 inches long, Lucky Craft’s new foray into the hulking glide bait segment gives anglers an affordable option when pursuing those giant bass that key on jumbo forage. The Real Ayu 178F has a slender, two-piece body jointed in the middle and features a soft silicone tail insert that is replaceable. The bait was built to be slow floating, meaning it will gradually rise toward the surface on the pause. When twitched, it moves in an “S” pattern and can turn 180 degrees with the slightest twitch. It weighs 2 1/16 oz. and will sell for $19.99.
Real BG
The Real BG (bluegill) 150SS is a 5 7/8-inch long jointed bait designed to mimic one of a bass’ favorite prey – the bluegill family. It weighs more than 2 1/2 oz. and will sink rapidly so it’s designed to be fish on a slow, steady retrieve with intermittent twitches to impart its curling action. Available in seven realistic finishes, the Real BG will also sell for $19.99.
Sammy Bug
Two legendary topwater concepts are melded together to create the Sammy Bug. Built with a shortened version of the Sammy and with a cupped metal plate loosely attached to the nose of the bait, the Sammy Bug creates a commotion on the surface like no other. A small propeller in front of the rear feathered treble hook creates additional noise and flash to draw fish to the surface. The 3-inch bait is available is six different color patterns.
Screw Pointer 80 & 90
The spy bait technique is here to stay and the Screw Pointer gives anglers another option when targeting pre-spawn fish. Built with the body of the popular Pointer jerkbait, props on the nose and tail of the bait, along with an internal weighting system, allow the Screw Pointer to move through water in a unique way. Available in eight color finishes and two sizes (3 1/4 inches & 7/16 oz. and 3 9/16 inches & 1/2 oz.).
LC 6.5XD DRS Crankbait
Lucky Craft has added an extra-deep diving crankbait to its already diverse plug portfolio with the addition of the 6.5XD DRS crank. The body (3 13/16 inches) is smaller than the SKT Magnum 120 Mag DR and weighs just over 2 ounces. Still, it will achieve depths approaching 25 feet and kick out a thumping rattle that will draw strikes from bottom-hugging bass. Available in three colors.
Lightning Pointer XR
Building on the theory that anglers can’t have enough Pointers in their arsenal, Lucky Craft introduces the Lightning Pointer XR. It’s a slow-sinking model that will survey the top the 7 feet of the water column and stay there. The frame is taller than previous Pointers and features a slender, tapered backside that helps brings the bait to life as soon as you begin your retrieve. Available in 3-inch and 4-inch versions and five different colors. A great value for $8.99.
Gunfish 117 & 130
Another great new value from Lucky Craft is the Gunfish 117 and 130. While the original Gunfish is still an effective option when topwater fishing, the new 117 and 130 models sit flatter on the surface and are easier to walk. They’re also bigger (4 1/2 and 5 1/3”) and will cast incredible distances. Features a cupped mouth so it can be twitched on the surface like a popper or walked with a rhythmic retrieve. Available in six colors.
