Shimano has given its Citica baitcasting reel a makeover just in time for ICAST.
A mainstay in Shimano’s baitcasting lineup, the Citica I will be available in right- and left-hand retrieves in both high gear (7.2:1) and low gear (6.3:1) models. The Citica I will be officially introduced at ICAST in Orlando, Fla., next month, but a limited number of reels were made available at select tackle dealers in the U.S. and Canada on June 1.
As was done with the Antares, Metanium and the remade Curado, Shimano incorporated its HAGANE design concept into the new Citica, resulting in a more rigid, tougher and impact resistant reel body. The stiffness of the metal reel body virtually eliminates body flexing, resulting in more of the angler’s actions being transformed into cranking power.
The Citica I will be equipped with Shimano’s X-Ship technology, which is the key to smooth retrieves, and also comes with the S3D spool for balance and reduced vibration. The SVS Infinity braking system gives the user an easy-to-manage braking system and seemingly endless adjustment option when trying to dial in the proper cast. It also has five stainless ball bearings.
All four reels weigh 7.4 ounces, and will handle from 190 yards of 30-pound test to 80 yards of 65-pound test PowerPro braid.
The Citica I will retail for $149.99.
