Every bait has a backstory, just like every fish catch has a tale behind it.

For years, the Megabass Vision OneTen series of jerkbaits have been in a league of their own. Ever since its introduction in the late 1990s, the OneTen, with its one-of-a-kind darting action, has been a tremendous asset for anglers, pros and amateurs alike.

Just ask any Megabass pro staff angler how many times other competitors try to raid their jerkbait boxes and it's easy to understand why this bait is so effective.

Because of its popularity, Megabass has developed additional OneTen models that perform differently when the conditions call for a certain presentation.

Earlier this year, Megabass decided to bring the forerunner to the OneTen to the marketplace when it introduced the ITO SHINER. And here's where the backstory kicks in.

The genesis of the ITO SHINER can be traced back to before the OneTen was even born from the mind of Megabass CEO Yuki Ito. In fact, the ITO SHINER is based off of Ito's hard-carved balsa jerkbait that served as the model for the OneTen.

At 4 1/2 inches and weighing half an ounce, the ITO SHINER has a slightly larger profile that the OneTen, largely because it was inspired by the practice of using live shiners to target trophy-sized bass. While the OneTen serves as a universal minnow imitation, the ITO SHINER delivers a more hard-hitting and aggressive (30 percent more) darting action.

Equipped with three #4 Katsuage out-barb treble hooks, the ITO SHINER comes ready for battle right out of the package. Currently available in a variety of classic and ultra-detailed color patterns Megabass has become known for, the ITO SHINER follows appropriately in the OneTen's sizable footsteps and seems poised to blaze a trail of its own.

The ITO SHINER is available now and sells for $25.99.
