Blandford: from PAA to colleges

Blandford: from PAA to colleges

PAA program director Danny Blandford will leave his post this week to become director of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and its flagship event, the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship.

The 32-year-old Blandford has deep roots in college fishing. In fact, he credits the program at Indiana University for keeping him enrolled long enough to earn a master's degree in water resources.

"I'm excited about it," he said. "I don't want this to sound too cliché, but college fishing really did change my life. I got involved my first year (at Indiana) and basically ran that program for 5 years."

His involvement with the Hoosiers club led to his first job in the industry with Skeeter Boats. He moved from there to his gig with the PAA.

His successor with the PAA has not been named. He's working on a transition plan with PAA president Dave Mansue.

"Everything lined up perfectly and this is the right fit for me," Blandford said. "The future of college fishing is extremely bright and I wanted to be involved with it.

"My time with the PAA was an awesome experience. They've got some good momentum over there and they're in great shape with Dave and the boys. This was a very difficult decision because I love those guys. They're a great team."
