'Rude wins 2-stroke too

It's been a big day for the J.D. Power and Associates awards at the Miami International Boat Show. Although BassFan previously reported that the Mercury OptiMax was rated Highest in Customer Satisfaction Two-Stroke Outboard Engines, that award was actually a tie, and the Evinrude E-Tec shares the distinction.

Mike Kennedy, VP of North American outboard engine sales at BRP, accepted the award. "This award is very significant for Evinrude and right in line with results of our own consumer surveys conducted in the fall," he said.

Roch Lambert, VP and GM of outboard marine engines at BRP, said: "With only 4 years in the marketplace, Evinrude E-Tec has reached the top of the customer-satisfaction ranking faster than any outboard engine ever has."

Also notable is that Evinrude is the most improved two-stroke direct-injection product in its category. It increased 24 index points since last year, and gained a total of 46 index points in the past 2 years combined.

"Receiving this award demonstrates that our message about Evinrude E-Tec benefits has been heard among a growing segment of consumers looking to spend more time on the water," Lambert added.

In other Evinrude news, the company today announced a new series of props, and remote controls for the E-Tec. The addition of new propellers and enhancements to existing propellers include polished stainless steel for improved durability and longevity.

The new Rogue four-blade prop, available in five pitch sizes, is said to improve acceleration and
rough-water handling in the 40- through 115-hp E-Tecs. It's geared mainly toward flats boats. The Cyclone, Rebel and Viper props lines have all been expanded to include more pitch sizes in 1-inch increments.
