Spook is Dardanelle leader's main weapon

Primarily throwing a Heddon Zara Spook, Zach King caught a 14-11 stringer on day 1 of the Plains Division Toyota Series event at Lake Dardanelle.

I caught 15 keepers junk-fishing mostly, King said. I caught some on a Rat-L-Trap and I caught some on a worm. I caught some on a River2Sea Whopper Plopper, but the main bait Ive been catching them on is a Spook. I caught them all day on it.

King says it took him until about 9:30 a.m. to find a groove. After that, he says he caught fish consistently on light-colored lures.

I didnt have a fish at 9 oclock, King said. I pulled up on a spot and at 9:25 I was culling. When I figured that out, I started running that pattern and I caught them all day.

Here's how the early Top 10 stacks up:

1. Zach King: 14-11
2. Matt Wood: 14-05
3. Kyle Weisenburger: 13-12
4. Joe Bennett: 13-06
5. Steve Floyd: 13-01
6. Teddy Bogard: 12-05
7. Dylan Hays: 11-14
8. Spencer Shuffield: 11-13
9. Jason Lieblong: 11-10
10. Israel Mills: 11-08
