Nixon's goal to return at Hartwell

Nixon's goal to return at Hartwell

Larry Nixon had to sit out last week's FLW Pro Circuit season opener at Sam Rayburn Reservoir due to a shoulder operation he underwent in December. He's likely to miss several more events as well.

He said the surgery was successful, but the recovery process will be slow. The joint had ailed him for many years.

"I can raise my arm over my head and do a lot of things, but there's certain movements I won't be able to make for a while," he said. "I can barely get a spoon to my lips right now. I could reel a spinning rod, but I couldn't cast it."

He'll visit his doctor again in about three weeks and expects to be released to perform additional movements at that point.

"When you get old, the muscle mass goes away quick and it's hard to build it back up," the 69-year-old Bass Fishing Hall of Famer said. "My goal is to be ready for Hartwell (April 23-26) – I'd like to fish the latter part of the season."
