A decade ago, Joe Balog was a non-believer in the concept of bass fishing as a high school sport – he figured that not enough teenagers had the necessities, mainly access to bass boats, to make it work. But the efforts of parents and volunteers, combined with the great enthusiasm of the youths, have allowed the sport to thrive and prove his original assessment to be way off the mark.
