The children of late FLW founder Irwin Jacobs and his late wife, Alexandra, are currently embroiled in a legal dispute over the size of their father's estate.
According to a report published first in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and additional reporting by the Star-Tribune, Jacobs' daughter, Randi, obtained a court order last week to prevent her siblings – brother Mark Jacobs and sister Trisha Blake – from holding an estate sale at their parents' mansion on Lake Minnetonka. Blake is FLW's president of marketing.
Irwin and Alexandra Jacobs died in a murder-suicide at the home on April 10 and the dispute among their children reportedly began not long after.
The purpose of the court order obtained by Randi Jacobs was to halt the sale so her parents' wills can be sorted out and it can be determined if they had separate estates. Because Alexandra was a victim, questions remain about whether her estate, if one exists, takes precedence over Irwin's.
Mark Jacobs has told his sisters that their father's debt exceeded $110 million, leaving little chance that any of the children will receive an inheritance. E-mails, cited in court documents, indicate Jacobs had more than 30 creditors and that number continues to rise.
The Jacobs' 20-plus acre estate, which features a 12,800-square foot mansion and more than 900 feet of lake frontage on Lake Minnetonka and Lake Tanager, is currently on the market for $11.995 million.
