Report: Bentz launches new boat company

Earl Bentz, the man behind the Stratos, Javelin and Triton boat brands, is returning to the boat-building business, according to a report in the Nashville Business Journal.

A post on the publication's website Monday said Caymas Boats, founded by Bentz, is expected to start production on freshwater and saltwater boats in February. A 27-foot saltwater bay boat is expected to be the company's first model with bass boats up 21 feet also in the works.

Backed by a $30 million investment, two existing buildings in Ashland City, Tenn., will be renovated and serve as Caymus' headquarters and manufacturing facility. The company is expected to create 280 jobs.

“All of us at Caymas Boats are thrilled to bring fiberglass boatbuilding back home to Ashland City,” Bentz said in a news release. “I’m especially proud that many area craftsmen who formerly built Stratos, Javelin and Triton boats have already signed onto the Caymas workforce. These loyal and highly skilled men and women already have decades of boatbuilding expertise, assuring that Caymas Boats will lead the marine industry in quality and innovation.”
