Gerald Spohrer has partnered with a Louisiana industrial welding company on a new sponsorship for the 2018 Elite Series season.
SWAT, which stands for Specialty Welding and Turnaround, is based in Spohrer’s hometown of Gonzales, La., and will take over the title sponsorship of Spohrer, who is entering his second season on the Elite Series.
Spohrer said he became familiar with SWAT through his work with another of his sponsors – Catalyst Handling – as the two firms often work side by side on projects in the oil industry.
“The owner of (SWAT) is a huge fan of the Bassmasters so they were already following my success,” Spohrer said. “Eventually, friends of friends brought us together and I proposed a plan to work together. He presented it to the shareholders of the company and they liked the idea.”
He likes the idea of having a local company support him in his fishing career.
“It has a little more substance to it to work with a company where I know the people,” he said. “It’s cool to hear their success story and know their goal is to double the size of the company in three years. This is one strategy to build their brand.”
Spohrer said he plans to launch a social media campaign in the coming weeks built around the hashtags #SWATLife and #BornForGreatness.
